Social Studies Teacher

Welcome to the UACHS US History, Latin-American & Caribbean Studies, African-American Studies, and Sociology Classes.
About me:
Hello! My name is Leonardo Del Mundo, also known as Mr. Del Mundo or Mr. D by my students. I teach US History, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, African-American Studies, and Sociology. I've taught for about 5-6 years, with my last school being MS#4 in downtown Jersey City, and I have been teaching at UACHS for 2 years now.

You can always refer to my various syllabuses to the right of this page for further information about how my classes are structures, rules and policies, grading percentages, etc. They are mostly structured very similar to one another.
The aim for my US History classes are as follows:
 
-Students will understand various historical topics
-Students will be able to build connections with present-day events and historical events, and compare various historical events, cultures, themes, and people.
-Students will be able to create historical arguments
-Students will learn how to conduct historical research, and write proper research papers in MLA or APA format to prepare for college.
The goals for my Sociology classes are as follows:
 
-Students will understand various sociological terminology
-Students will be able to build connections with present-day events and historical events.
-Understanding themes such as climate change, LGBTQ+, racism, social institutions, labor, politics, and economics to name a few.
-Students will be able to create important sociological arguments 
-Students will learn how to conduct sociological research, and write proper research papers in MLA or APA format to prepare for college.
-Apply their knowledge in my class to the real world, and create a better world to live in.

The goals for my African-American Studies classes are as follows:

-Analyzing various texts and forms of media that highlights important histories regarding African-Americans in America.
-Understanding the various forms of racial prejudice and social inequalities that African-Americans face, and the struggles that the had/have to overcome.
-Celebrating the many accomplishments of the African-American diaspora throughout history.
-Learn about the various aspects of African-American culture to share with others.

The goals for my Latin-American & Caribbean Studies classes are as follows:

-Analyzing various texts and forms of media that highlights important histories regarding Latin-Americans & Caribbean people and culture.
-Understanding as much about the geography and history that make up much of the Southern Hemisphere of the Americas.
-Celebrating the many accomplishments of the Latin-Americans & Caribbeans throughout history.
-Learn and engage with the culture of Latin-America & the Caribbeans to share with others.
Grading for all of my classes are usually the same. They are as follows:

Participation/Attendance - 10%

In-class assignments/homework- 10%

Projects/Written papers - 20%

Exams/Tests/Quizzes- 30%

Leadership Points- 30%
